In today’s blog, I’m going to be talking about Fertility EFT.  EFT or tapping can help you reduce stress and anxiety on your fertility journey to regain emotional control and help you to move towards a more fulfilled life while you wait.

When I first discovered EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or tapping I couldnt believe that it wasn’t something that everybody already knew about.

It’s like a secret weapon that everyone should have up their sleeve. I use EFT most days and always before reaching for any kind of painkillers for any physical discomfort. I love sharing the power of tapping with everyone I know and also the clients I work with. Read on to find out more about Fertility EFT…

What is Fertility EFT?

Energy tapping is amazing! It can bring you really fast, effective relief from so many daily and long term difficulties including stress, overwhelm, physical pain and suffering, distressing thoughts, disturbing memories and limiting beliefs.

This might sound far-fetched or totally weird to you and I was dubious myself when I first heard about it, however I thought there was nothing to lose and there was no harm in finding out more and trying it for myself. I wasn’t disappointed! This is something we should be taught in school.

As humans if we are feeling discomfort, physically or emotionally, we rub, touch and hold ourselves. Think how when we’re frustrated how we hold our head in our hands, or if were shocked we hold our heart. We also reach out to cuddle and hold our loved ones when we’re distressed or upset as we’re inherently wired to take comfort from this by feeling supported and safe.

We Feel Good and Bad Emotions

We ‘feel’ a wide range of emotions, some that feel good and some that feel bad and different people can feel these emotions in different parts of the body. If I’m anxious I feel it in my solar plexus and my shoulders.

There is also the internal ‘talk’ we give to ourselves as we go through the day whilst we make sense of situations, question what might be happening and analyse thoughts. With self talk we are often harsh and critical of ourselves rather than kind and encouraging as we would be towards other people.

Tapping uses touch and talking to vocalise and become aware of what’s happening for us in that moment and also brings an awareness of how we would like to feel instead. This helps to bring difficult thoughts and feelings up and notice how it is affecting us physically, mentally and practically. It helps to move energy through our bodies where it may have been causing us to feel stuck or uncomfortable.

Different versions of tapping have been used for many years. During a tapping session we tap on different meridians or pressure points in the body that are also used in acupuncture. These points are used to bring relief, often very quickly during a session but also the effects are accumulative so regular tapping brings lots of benefits.


Fertility EFT – Why?

When you have endured the struggle of being unable to successfully conceived for months or years, you can begin to feel helpless hopeless, anxious, sad and overwhelmed.

If you have been told that you have a physical condition for example blocked tubes, fibroids, endometriosis etc or another condition which limits your chances of conception even the grim prognosis of unexplained infertility you begin to lose hope and wonder if it will ever happen for you and your family.

Some of the above conditions also have physical symptoms which along with physical pain also cause emotional pain and frustration. And lets not mention receiving a pregnancy announcement from a friend or a colleague thats pregnant without even trying.

You need a way to release the negative energy and emotional blocks that you have built up due to all these difficulties and months after months of not being pregnant, Fertility EFT is an excellent technique to help you and your partner manage the rollercoaster journey of trying to conceive.


How to use EFT?

Tapping is so easy, all you have to do is:

  • tune in to your body and your mind
  • speak the truth about how you feel right now
  • choose how you’d like to feel instead

Whilst doing the above you tap on natural comfort points (meridians), this helps you shift your physical and emotional energy towards relief and feeling really good.

I recently had Covid and had really disturbing, depressing thoughts along with a headache. Tapping brought the intense feelings down to where I felt like I could cope again.

When we have physical pain it usually has an emotional impact. For example, my headache was really frustrating me and it was making me worry that Covid was taking over my body.

It was quite scary but within 10 minutes I felt back in control of my thoughts and my headache had eased from a 6 on my pain scale to a 2.

How to Tap

Theres a video at the top of this blog  so you can tap along with me and also heres a written description of how to tap in 7 easy steps.

I have used anxiety because its a familiar thing that comes up when working with both fertility and birth clients. Just to be clear you can tap on absolutely anything that causes you difficulty and the really great thing is theres no right or wrong way to do this. The following will help you to get started.

Step 1

Tune into yourself where do you feel discomfort or distress? What does it feel like?  Where in your body can you feel it? Where are you holding the difficult emotions? How is it affecting you?

Step 2

Note the intensity of the feeling and assign a level from 0 to 10 (0 being no intensity and 10 being very intense) – if you dont know, guess, it’s just for you to tune in & see how the intensity has decreased.

Step 3

Take 2 or 3 deep, relaxing breaths to bring yourself into the here and now. Maybe thinking about how your body feels on the surface you’re resting on and bringing your attention to yourself.

Step 4

While tapping on the karate chop point say your set up statement. This statement usually includes the part that speaks the truth about how you feel right now. For example “ Even though Ive got these anxious thoughts, I deeply and completely accept myself.”     (say this 3 times)

Step 5

Tap on each of the following points 5 to 10 times, stating your issue at each tapping point: these anxious thoughts” next point “these anxious thoughts” etc

  • Top of head
  • eyebrow
  • side of the eye
  • under the eye
  • under the nose
  • chin
  • collarbone
  • under the arm (about a hands width from your armpit)
  • top of the head (crown)

Step 6

Take another deep breath.

Step 7

Have a quick check on the intensity of the feelings with zero being no intensity, its gone and 10 being very intense. If its above 3, repeat the steps above. You dont need to tap on the karate chop point but you can if you would like to.

Next Step

For the next round you could say something like the following:

  • eyebrow “ all of these anxious feelings & thoughts”
  • side of the eye  “I’m feeling really worried, it’s disturbing my sleep”
  • under the eye “I’m feeling all this tension & tightness in my body”
  • under the nose “it’s really getting on my nerves & pi**ing me off”
  • chin “I want it to stop now because here at this moment I am safe”
  • collarbone “I thank the thoughts for trying to protect me, but they are not helping me”
  • under the arm “I feel overwhelmed at times”
  • top of head “I accept I have these feelings, and now I’m letting them go”


I don’t know what to say whilst tapping?

You can also tap on not knowing what to say…

When you feel the intensity has come down to approximately level 3 you can tap on all of the points again with how youd like to be feeling instead. You can write a list of positive things you would like to feel.

The most important thing is there is no right or wrong way to do this, no right words to say or wrong words to say. Use whatever feels good for you. If you want to shout and swear then thats fine it also helps the energy move through your body.

New thoughts and feelings might come up while youre tapping that you can voice in the moment. It’s also worth noting if youre feeling physical discomfort, the place could change while youre tapping. For example if you have a headache you may feel tension in your neck which could be where the headache was coming from in the first place.


I don’t want to say that I accept myself or the difficult feelings.

In the karate chop set up statement, if it feels too awkward to say I deeply and completely accept myself you can change this to something that you feel more comfortable with, for example I am open to feeling better or I am doing my best right now.

Variations of energy tapping have been used for years. It uses pressure points or meridians in the body that are also used in acupuncture. These energy points naturally attract your attention and feel good if you rub, tap or poke them.

They stimulate a healing response, pain is relieved and we feel better. Its amazing knowing that you have relief at your fingertips, relief from stress, anxiety, fear, overwhelming distressing thoughts, pain and suffering, disturbing memories, and limiting beliefs.
