My Own Hypnobirthing Story

After the joy of finding out I was pregnant came the fear that the baby growing inside me was going to have to come out.

I’m Jo, I’m from the North East, now living in Horsham in West Sussex with my husband and two ‘hypnobirthed’ children.

I dreamed of getting pregnant for years thinking our fertility journey stress would end.

After IVF we got that positive result and with it I found myself with a whole new set of worries about being pregnant and giving birth.

I bounced from one troubling thought to another until my partner who was trying to help me found out about Hypnobirthing.

Absolutely clueless about what it was I read that ‘developing a calm approach to pregnancy and birth will enable you to prepare for a safer, easier, more comfortable, joyful birth’.

These were not words I associated with birth! Maybe you’re not quite at ‘joyful birth’ yet either?

My beliefs all came from the awful stories we’re told & what we see on TV.  I didn’t believe that anyone could feel calm or excited about giving birth and I was so curious to read on and find out if these women were real who birthed with ‘joy and ease’.

It was incomprehensible to me that I too could feel like this. But I wanted to find out the ‘secrets’ of these empowered women and so I signed up for a hypnobirthing course believing there was nothing to lose and maybe something to gain.

I wanted to feel prepared and have a back up strategy that if things took a different path than planned we would be able to remain calm, relaxed and level headed if need be. I still had doubts about my ability in the very back of my mind but I was determined to give it a good go.

Birth was beautiful, I loved it. Did it go exactly as we had planned? No, and that didn’t matter as we were prepared and had learned some techniques to remain calm, relaxed and flexible in the moment.

The same went for my second baby.

I did it, we did it, and now I want to guide you so you can do it too!

If I can do it, you certainly can.

I feel so lucky to have heard about  hypnobirthing as it was less well known in 2012. Family and friends were sarcastic when I told them my intentions but I learned that not listening to others scaremongering was going to be hugely beneficial. And it was.

I trained as an instructor with The Wise Hippo as I wanted to empower and enable others to change their beliefs about birth. I feel privileged to have helped many parents to have an amazing birth and how to incorporate what you learn into life afterwards to help you with parenthood and beyond. You will learn really useful tools for life. I keep my worry thoughts in check now thanks to hypnobirthing and all of my other training I have since completed.

I have a garden studio for face to face sessions or I can travel to you within a 10 mile radius of Horsham and I also teach via zoom.

I would love to work with you so that you can feel prepared and confident to achieve ‘The Right Birth on the Day’ no matter what.
